Google Maps

This week, I explored the Google site, My Maps. My Maps allows you to create custom maps for different purposes. Whether you are planning a trip, creating a presentation, or just exploring your own interests, My Maps is a creative tool to use to accomplish these tasks. I clicked through all the buttons to figure out the different possibilities the program has to offer and was able to customize my travel route with different colors and map options. I found the site fun as it created an interesting way to express my desired places to visit on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. This tool can prove transformative for both teachers' and students' learning experiences.
While navigating the site, I tried to find ways to utilize it in the classroom. I found that My maps could be an interactive tool to help teach children about geographical concepts, map reading, and distance. Students can closely explore certain oceans, mountains, or other famous landmarks being discussed in class. This interactive approach helps children better understand spatial relationships and locations while enhancing their cognitive development and navigational skills. Overall, using My Maps can give children the power to be a cartographer and create their own maps!
