AI and ChatGPT

This week, I expanded my knowledge of AI platforms, specifically ChatGPT. I engaged with ChatGPT to test its use and capabilities. I found that the platform generated a well-organized answer that was relevant to my prompt. I also read an article from the Office of Educational Technology titled "Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Teaching and Learning" that discusses education's transformative potential through the use of AI. I chose this particular article to read because I work in the field of education and thought the content would prove useful to me. The findings from the activities I conducted this week supported my previous thoughts about AI; while it is an effective tool, it has its risks and should be used safely and responsibly.

Every week, I find ways to connect the new topics I learn to early childhood education. AI can offer various opportunities for learning and teaching. For example, AI platforms can aid educators in curating individualized experiences tailored to individual children's needs. There are also opportunities to combat language barriers as AI models offer language learning and pronunciation guides. While these technological tools can provide children with engaging games, it is important to prioritize hands-on experiences that promote experimentation, problem-solving, and creativity. Activities that have these competencies in mind are most beneficial to children's development. Ultimately, it is vital to use AI or any other technological tool intentionally ensuring that it is enhancing, rather than replacing, human interaction and educational experiences.
