Project-based Learning (PBL)

This week's topic of discovery was the idea of Project-based Learning (PBL). I created a PowerPoint presentation on PBL discussing the importance of this model and ways to create projects successfully. Project-based learning is an instructional approach that encourages students to actively explore real-world concepts. This approach challenges students, promotes inquiry, and encourages collaboration. The goal is to ensure that projects are relevant and create a meaningful learning experience through connections to the real world. I also discussed the importance of formative assessment: the ongoing assessment during projects to gain an understanding of students' knowledge and progress.
Many theories and research support the benefits of hands-on, experimental learning. Children are naturally curious scientists who love to explore. PBL supports this wonderment by encouraging children to think creatively and problem-solve. Because this approach encourages collaboration, children are enhancing their social-emotional development as well. PBL in early childhood education proves to create an interactive learning environment that provides children with the opportunity to engage in more meaningful and intentional experiences.
